Moving again

The days living at our Addington Road address are now numbered. After getting fed up with our idiot noisy neighbours who simply don’t care if they wake people up when they roll in drunk at 4am and have an hour-long after-party, we have given notice to our estate agent and have put down a holding deposit to rent a new place about a mile from where we are now.

It’s not just the neighbours who ignore your request to be quiet (and in one case moaned that I was banging on their door too loudly when I went to complain at 1am). The landlord seems to have no interest in making any repairs to the property. Most of the lightbulbs both inside and outside in the communal hallway have been blown for months, at least 2 of the flats (including ours) have serious damp problems, and the flat below us has had water leaking through the bedroom ceiling for over a year. When we moved in here, it was a nice place, but it’s getting run down quickly and in 5 years will be a rathole if the landlord doesn’t start spending money on the upkeep.

Our new place, on the other hand, is much nicer. It’s bigger, a house rather than a flat, only marginally more rent, has quiet neighbours, and is owned by a landlady who is more than willing to spend money on the place – she even had a burglar alarm fitted when the previous tenants simply requested it. We move in on the 28th of February – we’ve sent the new address to a few people already, but if you haven’t got it just email us.

Renting is truly sucky – I was so glad to get out of that situation. I guess you guys won’t want to be buying until you go overseas though. :/

Best of luck with the new place!

Yay to upgrades! Sounds like you guys are moving to a sweet house. Congratulations, and sympathy for your future moving stress and back pains.

Actually, buying would be worse – it’s a lot bloody harder to move if you end up with noisy neighbours!
